Playing on the region's reputation for political instability may not be very PC, but it would take a coup d'état to dethrone this sleek bar restaurant from its perch atop Tana's elite dining scene. The menu creatively uses local products to create a refined fusion meal that complements the elegant ethnic ambiance nicely. Reservations are strongly suggested.


    The zebu is a constant motif – with foie gras, carpaccio, and ribs – but the menu is always consistent; for dessert, try the chocolate coulant with lime sorbet. There is a children's menu as well as a few vegetarian options.

  5. Make a reservation at La Rizière for delicious meals at reasonable costs. The restaurant is a working culinary school, and all of the cooks and waiters are honing their skills. The service is lovely (at the conclusion of the dinner, the cooks come out and introduce themselves) and the dining space is spectacular: a glasshouse with panoramic views of Fianarantsoa.


    It can be nearly desolate around noon, so reserve a table for the evening to experience a bit more atmosphere. The chefs at this restaurant do their best to provide diners with perfectly cooked salads. Some reviewers found that you can have a good parfait here. Courteous staff awaits guests throughout the year. Great service is always a pleasure. You will find a quiet atmosphere here.
